One of the most common questions retailers hear is: "Will it fit my helmet?" Helmets vary in shape and size across manufacturers, but BTR covers use a universal fit system that works with nearly all standard cycling helmets.
Understanding how it works means your staff can confidently recommend the right product and cut down on returns.
How Universal Fit Works
BTR helmet covers use stretch fabric with an adjustable elastic drawstring around the rim. Fitting takes about 10 seconds:
- Stretch the cover over the top of the helmet
- Pull it down to cover the ventilation holes
- Tighten the drawstring underneath the rim
- Adjust for a smooth, secure fit
The drawstring does the heavy lifting. It gathers excess fabric beneath the rim, so the same cover fits everything from a compact road helmet to a larger urban design.

- Feature in window displays during wet weather
Common customer questions
-
Does it affect safety? No. The cover sits over the outer shell and doesn't interfere with the helmet's protective structure.
-
Is there any wind noise? Not when it's fitted properly.
-
Does it block my vision? No. It sits on top of the helmet, well above the rider's eyeline.
-
How do I wash it? Hand wash or gentle machine wash at 30°C.
-
How long does it last? Typically 2-3 seasons with regular commute use.
Colour Selection Guide
Tier 1: Core colours
-
Yellow: the runaway best seller. Maximum visibility, popular across all rider types.
-
Orange: high visibility without the construction worker look. Popular with commuters.
-
Black: for road cyclists who want rain and wind protection without the hi-vis look.
Tier 2: Extended range
-
Red: steady seller with a loyal following.
-
Pink: strong among female cyclists and event teams.
Tier 3: Niche
-
Blue: consistent but smaller market.
-
Grey (Reflective Silver): the stealth option. Looks subtle in daylight but reflects brilliantly in headlights.
Starter inventory recommendation: 4 x Yellow, 3 x Orange, 3 x Black. That's a £35 trade investment with £89.90 retail value.

Frequently asked questions
Does the cover fit helmets with a peak or visor?
Yes. The cover stretches over the main shell and the drawstring cinches under the rim, so a detachable peak on a commuter or MTB helmet won't interfere with the fit. For helmets with a built-in visor, customers usually leave the visor exposed and fit the cover over just the shell.
Do riders complain about losing ventilation once the cover is on?
Rarely. The cover is only for cold or wet rides, when blocking wind and rain is the priority. Most commuters find the mild loss of airflow is a fair trade for staying dry and keeping cold draughts out, and they just pull the cover off in mild weather.
Will it fit over a helmet with a MIPS or similar rotational liner?
Yes. MIPS and similar liners sit between the inner foam and the rider's head, well below where the cover makes contact. The cover only touches the outer shell, so it can be used over any MIPS-equipped helmet without affecting that system.
Do bundle orders include counter display units?
Yes, POS counter display units ship free with bundle orders. They sit on a small counter footprint near the till and turn a packaged accessory into a visible impulse buy.
Can a customer return a cover if it doesn't fit their helmet?
Returns on unused stock follow the same policy as any other product. In practice fit-related returns are uncommon because the universal drawstring fit works on almost all standard cycling helmets, especially if staff run the 10-second fit demo at the point of sale.
